Here's a story from the Erie Times about a woman, Bonnie Little, who lost 80 pounds by giving up meat:
Ten months later, Little's cholesterol and blood pressure are normal -- without the help of medication -- and she has lost about 80 pounds. How did she do it?
She switched to a mostly vegetarian diet, trading her chicken wings and pizza for kale and parsnips. "I have always liked vegetables, and I learned that I could eat almost as much as I wanted," Little said. Keep reading here.
